The Solar Apocalypse mod turns your world into a wasteland. It does so in 3 phases.
Phase 1:
On day 3 all grass and mycelium that’s exposed to sunlight will slowly turn to dirt.
Phase 2:
On day 5 all water evaporates, flammable blocks slowly burn, ice melts, sand turns to dust, and all organic matter that’s exposed to sunlight is destroyed.
Phase 3:
On day 7 all mobs and players that are exposed to sunlight slowly burn to death. If you die and respawn on the surface you’re given a 2 minute grace period. The world looks the same as it does in day 5, but you just can’t go out safely during the day. Here’s an image of the world before the solar apocalypse:
The sun increases in size with each phase.
The mod is fully configurable.
You can change the day each phase starts and if you set it to a negative number, it disables the phase. You can also change the size of the sun for each phase and choose which dimensions the Solar Apocalypse mod tampers with.
Lastly, you can choose which phase coarse dirt turns to sand (or completely disable it which is the default). If the option is disabled then dirt just turns into coarse dirt. If the option is enabled then dirt turns to coarse dirt, then sand, and finally dust. Here’s how the surface of your world will look with the option disabled:
